Compass Datacenters Begins Transformation of Former Sears Site into Hyperscale Data Center Campus
On June 13, 2024, Compass Datacenters began work to transform the former Sears Headquarters site in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, into a hyperscale data center campus. The Dallas-based company plans to construct five hyperscale data centers on the nearly 200-acre site, representing approximately $10 billion in local investment. The development will create 1,000 local jobs. Compass purchased the site in September 2023 and has since been preparing it for development. The structural demolition is set to begin in the summer, with construction starting the following year. The project marks a significant step in the technology diversification of Hoffman Estates' tax base.
